Shankar lives a wealthy lifestyle in India along with his wife, Savitri. When Savitri fails to conceive, her mother prays to Devi Maa Durga, who is pleased and bestows a baby girl, who they subsequently name Satya, on the condition that Savitri donate her Mangal Sutra to the Devi Maa Mandir. After several months Savitri does return to the Mandir, but instead of donating the Mangal Sutra, she decides to donate an expensive necklace through the hands of Satya. While doing so, Satya falls in the donation clothing. Devi Maa devotees want Satya to stay in the temple, but Shankar and Savitri refuse to let this happen, they leave and re-locate to another city. This angers Devi Maa who decides to teach Savitri a lesson, and keeps on appearing sometimes as a flower-seller, other times as a dancer/singer, and finally as Satya's school-teacher and keeps on reminding Savitri of her promise to surrender Satya to her care. Mahima lives a middle-class lifestyle with her parents, Pooja and music teacher,Gautam. She is in love with a young man, Anuraag, whose foster father, Pratap, is very friendly with Gautam. Both Gautam and Pratap arrange to get the youngsters married, however, when they arrive at Pratap's house, they are met with open hostility by Pratap's wife, Shanti, her sons, Sukhpal, Shripal, and their respective wives Shobha and Suman, and do not approve of her as she did not bring in any dowry. Nevertheless, Mahima, a devotee of Devi Maa Santoshi, decides to win them over with her love and hard work. Then Anuraag is accused of stealing one Lakh rupees from the family's electronic showroom, he vehemently denies this, and even offers to leave for Bombay, earn the money and then return. After his departure, Mahima is abused, belittled, and treated like a servant.

One day, while at the Devi Maa Mandir, she comes to the assistance of a wealthy male, Haribabu, who approves of her, and gets her married to his son, Prakash. The wedding takes place, and Lakshmi re-locates to live with Prakash in Mumbai. She will soon find out that Prakash was forced to marry her, and is in love with his sweetheart, Ratna Choudhary. Lakshmi decides to assert herself, and soon wins over Prakash. It is only when Haribabu travels to Mahabuleshwar for a business trip that she will find that Prakash still loves Ratna, had merely feigned to love her, and is now involved in a conspiracy to kill her.

Balmukand lives a poor lifestyle in a village in India along with his wife, Sharda, and son, Alok. They share their house with his brother, Jaikishan, his wife, Urmila, their son, Abhishek, and daughter, Mona. Jaikishan gets an offer to work in America and with Sharda`s financial help re-locates there along with his family. Balmukand, a devotee of Devi Shakumbhari Maa, manages to acquire a factory and run it quite successfully until his partner embezzles money and vanishes. He asks Jaikishan for help, who returns to India along with his now grown children and a thoroughly modern Urmila to try and assist Balmukand. Jaikishan does assist his brother, but Urmila takes over the factory as well as the house and all belongings, compelling Balmukand and Sharda to re-locate to serve and live in Devi Maa Shakumbhari`s Mandir. Jaikishan wants Abhishek to get married to Pooja, the daughter of a poor Poojary, initially Abhishek refuses as he loves another girl, but when he sees her he realizes ...
